Black screen or monitor frequency error after installing updated graphics driver or chainging some display settings we get a screen saying OUT OF FREQUENCY
Symptom(s):
- Black screen after installing updated graphics driver
- Error: "out of frequency range"
Solution:
Customers with this problem should do following:
- Boot into Safe Mode by holding down <Ctrl> during bootup or pressing <F8> when it says "Starting Windows".
- Go into Display Properties and lower the screen resolution and refresh rate to 640x480 and 60 Hz (or adapter default). The screen resolution can be changed by going into Start > Settings > Control Panel > Display > Settings. The refresh rate can be change by clicking the "Advanced" button and selecting the "Adapter" tab.
- Reboot in standard mode.
- Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advanced. Select the "Adapter" tab. The driver information will appear. Click on the "Change" button.
- The "Update Device Driver Wizard" window should open.
- Click "Next".
- In the next window, select the "Display a list" option and click the "Next" button.
- Next, click on "Show all hardware".
- In the split screen window under "Manufacturers:", select "(Standard display types)".
- In the other half of the split window, select "Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA)"
- Then click on the "Next" button.
- Click on "Finish," then close all open windows.
- When asked to restart, click on "Yes."
Install the latest graphics drivers according to the instructions in the readme file.
