HOW TO RECOVER LOST WINDOWS 7 ,WINDOWS VISTA ,WINDOWS XP LOGIN PASSWORDS

Let’s assume that you, or someone you know, forgot their Windows password. The initial step someone usually takes when this occurs is to panic (understandably so). After all, none of us want to lose all of the information we have poured so much time into. The second step someone usually takes is to rummage through their drawers, trying to find any information written on a scrap of paper.

Assuming these two steps have been in vain, here is a useful third step to consider. Recover your password through the use of a free software application such as Ophcrack. We could go into detail about what Ophcrack is, and how it does it – but, truthfully, that is of minimal importance. Instead let’s look, step by step, how to use it.

Step by Step Guide on Using Ophcrack

1) Go to the Ophcrack site Download ophcrack LiveCD.

2) Select the XP LiveCD if you are using Windows XP. If you are using anything newer then select the Vista LiveCD. Within a few seconds you will be downloading the LiveCD ISO file.

3) In order to use the ISO file you need to burn it to a disk based media (CD or DVD). If you are using Windows 7, this feature is built in. If not, download and use a free ISO burning program – ISO Recorder is quite popular.

4) Restart your computer and enter the boot menu (likely by hitting F12 as your computer starts up). Making sure that your CD or DVD is in the computer’s drive, choose to boot from the CD or DVD.

5) When you see the ophcrack LiveCD screen select Ophcrack Graphic mode – automatic. In order to do this, you can simply hit the enter key (since this is the default option).

6) The Ophcrack Window will automatically load. Take a look at the leftmost column; this is where all the names of your user accounts are. For this demonstration, we have created a user account with the name “Dan”.

7) Wait as Ophcrack loads and attempts to discover your password. When it does, the password will appear in the right-hand column. For our demonstration, we had given “Dan” the password “DanTheMan” – which Ophcrack was able to discover.

8) Exit the Ophcrack environment. You can simply reset or shut your computer down at this stage.

Using the program in order to save yourself a great deal of grief is a great idea. The only thing that should be mentioned is that you should never use this type of program to access other people’s accounts. Ophcrack is designed solely as a helpful tool to get yourself out of trouble if you forgot your own Windows password.

7 most wanted OPEN SOURCE applications

During my years of Linux advocacy, I am usually asked a very basic question “what makes Linux better than [insert OS here].” The answer is a result of years of developing and honing the perfect answer to a non-technical person. I usually start with explaining that there are two fundamental schools of thought in the programming world. One that conceals and forbids any changes in functionality, while the other is open and encourages customization to fit ones needs. The conversation naturally goes from there to giving examples of Open Source programs this person might be using unwittingly. Here are 7 programs that the whole Open Source community is very proud of.

VLC

VLC media player is an open source player, encoder, and streamer that supports a wide variety of audio and video codecs in addition to DVD support. This little piece of heaven is almost fully platform independent, boasting a portfolio of supported OSes such as Windows, Mac, Linux, BeOS, BSD, and Solaris. It is almost the answer to any codec woes. “X file is not working”, a quick “install VLC” would probably be the answer. I discovered VLC back in my dial-up days (not very far away 2003), when I wanted to view incomplete e-mule files. Someone in the e-Mule IRC channel recommended it to me. I swear by it since then!

Firefox

No Open Source app list would be complete without the mention of Firefox! I believe that this browser was instrumental in the development of the Internet. Without Firefox you would probably have 20 instances of Internet Explorer in your taskbar right now (although Firefox weren’t the first, they popularized the concept of tab browsing.)

With the rise of the new millennium, and after the Internet bubble burst, web development grew stagnant and Microsoft sat on their laurels with Internet Explorer. Firefox served as a catalyst in advancing the wheel of Internet development. The geekerati flocked to Firefox, in only 5 years Firefox captured 20% of the web browser market!

Honestly, ones “geek-cred” would take serious dent if they aren’t using Firefox. Oh and I also feel mentally distressed when I see someone using IE. Ya I know I am a fanatic!

Wordpress

Non-techies probably use Wordpress on a daily basis, and to them they are not even using a “program” in it’s conventional sense. To them it’s just a “website”. Wordpress has developed into the premiere and the “go-to” platform for blogging. In less than two years it has bypassed other known blogging platforms on Google trends, 34% of the Technocrati top 100 blogs are using it (making it the most used), and currently claims a huge percentage of the total blog market! Quite a feat!

“Code is Poetry” is Wordpress’s mantra, it effectively reflects the Open Source community’s enthusiasm about programming. Keep up the good work guys, we are proud of you!

Apache

We heard this a million times, “this is the year of the desktop”, forgetting an even more important market. Apache has locked the server market in to the Open Source camp for years. Virtually anybody who uses the Internet will undoubtly use Apache on a Linux server unwittingly. And about that we brag! Hell even Google is proud of you, their search engine front end is based on a modified version of Apache, named Google Web Server (GWS). According to the latest Netcraft numbers, Apache dominates 50% of the server market. Even though Apache slipped in the recent years, it is still a testament to the viability of Open Source. Apache, you will always be the poster child in our eyes

Amarok

Amarok is a music player I simply adore! I don’t think I ever felt so passionately about an application as much as Amarok (yes even Firefox). I am so entangled with it that I don’t even know whats out there anymore. All I know that it fetches my covers, lyrics, and bios from Wikipedia. Amarok is also extendable via user scripts, giving you flexibility to say, control it from your mobile phone through bluetooth, blacklist certain tracks, or search youtube for the music video. The possibilities are endless to pimp your Amarok ! I don’t really know if these capabilities are now available in other players, nor do I care, Amarok got me locked in!

Jabber

All you Gtalk users, you are on Open Source turf (just like E-mail, POP, DHCP…etc, the way codes should be; OPEN!). Jabber is basically an instant messaging application that depends on the open standard Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP).

OpenOffice

I must admit, OpenOffice is still not up there with Microsoft Office. However, just the fact that OpenOffice gives you 95% of Microsoft Office capabilities without losing an arm and a leg gives us bragging rights. After all why should I pay over $300 for 10% of the features I actually need? It just sounds a bit unfair if you ask me.

There you have it. 7 apps that you can brag about or just to prove a point about Open Source. Of course this list is not exhuastive at all! Open Source has lots up it’s sleeve. Thunderbird, Gimp, OpenSSH, Laconica, MythTV…etc all are beaming examples of our great culture. Open Source FTW!

iPhone application for your car n environment

The Greenmeter, recently released by Hunter Research and Technologies, is an iPhone application with a mission: to keep track of your car’s carbon footprint and fuel efficiency . The program uses a multitude of variables to make its calculations, including weather conditions, cost of fuel, and vehicle weight.

More advanced measurements such as drag coefficient, vehicle pitch, and rolling resistance can be calculated using estimates available on the company’s website.

The Greenmeter is most accurate if placed on the dashboard or console between the two front seats. Just be careful that you don’t run into the problem of staring at the screen more than the road.

MacBook and MacBook Pro Dual Review

Before Tuesday, there was no way a MacBook and a MacBook Pro could appear in a single review. Too much separated the two systems, from outer appearance (build materials and backlit keyboard) to inner nitty gritty (graphics processors, etc.). To group the two classes together would have been like simultaneously reviewing a Ford Focus and a Ford Mustang. But the new MacBook and MacBook Pro are far more similar than they are different. From the glass-bezel screen to the front side bus, these computers finally deserve to share the name MacBook. They're brothers, one a pro, the other a vastly accomplished amateur. Here's our verdict, after two days of thorough nonstop testing.

Build

Stylistically, distinguishing the new MacBook from the MacBook Pro is nearly impossible. They are both cut from a single piece of aluminum in what looks to be an identical manner, save for the MB obviously being smaller.

This new "unibody construction" process does make for a more solid laptop, too. The chassis is one piece, made stronger by its lack of connecting corners—and less prone to manufacturing flaws, according to Apple.

The case is indeed more rigid, flexing less while carrying the notebook one-handed and supporting our wrists better during typing. (The old MBP supported wrists just fine as well, but only because the weight was distributed from the case to the hard drive and optical drive. Carrying it would cause it to give a bit.)

Side beveling distinguishes the laptops as part of the MacBook Air generation, ditching the clean box design of yesteryear. But unibody construction has updated the design in subtle ways, recessing the keyboard through a formerly impossible non-welded aluminum curve—and a similar rounded chunk has been cut from the front of the system to make for easy opening.

When you open the new MacBooks, be careful not to smudge your iSight lens. It's positioned right where your fingers go—and ours is now covered with grease. In fact, the entire black gloss surrounding the screen is in pretty poor shape. Closing the computers is vastly improved, however. Instead of the bang of plastic and click of the hook lock, it's a gentle impact, soft like felt, held closed by invisible magnets. Setting down the laptop is more pleasant as well, as both the MB and MBP feature the Air's larger rubber pads.

Unfortunately, the new aluminum build still interferes with Wi-Fi signals. Historically aluminum laptops have had shorter ranges than their plastic counterparts and the new MacBooks are no exception. Stretching the limits of the new MacBook, the old MacBook (above left) located hotspots where the new MacBook (above right) did not. That's not to say the metal laptops are particularly bad and there's no indication that they're worse than current MacBook Pros.

The MB is half a pound lighter than its predecessor, and that's a weight difference you'll notice. It's significantly thinner, too, shaving off 0.13 inches, while retaining the same footprint. The MBP, however, is 0.2 inches wider and longer than its predecessor, while only losing a minor 0.05 inches of thickness. It is also 0.1 pounds heavier. (You can read more about these differences in our Sizemodo.) These adjustments help unify the design: Both new MacBooks share a thickness of 0.95 inches, which appears all the thinner due to the design's narrowed edges.

To many MacBook users, the greatest change will be the updated, clickable Multi-Touch trackpad. It's said to be made of glass, but it doesn't look or feel like glass, so don't expect the iPhone's screen to be transplanted below the keyboard. It feels almost the same as the old MBP trackpad, and the finish offers a perfect level of resistance, allowing the finger to slide around easily but not in a skating-on-ice kind of way. As for the clicking, it's the source of mixed feelings for us.

The base of this controversy is that the entire pad doesn't click. Instead, the surface sort of pivots like a springboard from the top edge. In turn, users will find the bottom part of the pad to have the most give when clicking, so much so that it almost feels like the old trackpad button is still there. Unfortunately, the springboard design also causes a dead zone in the middle where clicking takes a good deal of effort.

From a design perspective, the clicking allows the trackpad to be sleeker. The joke is that Jobs, long a proponent of single-button mice when most people favor two, has finally gone to zero buttons. From a usage perspective, not much changes. You can drag and drop with one finger by firmly pressing as you move, but there's a better chance you'll still use two fingers like you did with the old trackpad.

The new four-finger gestures, like sliding down for Exposé or sliding right to swap programs, are a win, but it can be awkward to make that four-finger claw while typing. We'd argue that Exposé is such a useful function that we'd like to reassign it to a less awkward three-finger slide, perhaps. Unfortunately, remapping gestures is not an option—boy, would it make a great firmware update.

On the laptops' underside you'll notice a big difference. The removable battery has been tucked under a panel next to an easily removable hard drive. Apple is offering a lot of expensive drive upsells, including a 128GB SSD for the Pro, but who cares? Replacing a MacBook hard drive with your own Newegg purchase no longer requires the complicated dissection of one's laptop. Held in by just a few screws, it's easier to replace than some tower hard drives. Of course, this elegant solution is like a gateway drug. Why not have another hatch for replacing the memory?

To the chagrin of at least a few long-time MBP users, the keyboards of both the MB and MB Pro have also been influenced by the Air as they're black, separated and intensely backlit. There's a ton of side light spill, which looks neat until it gets distracting. (Note: the entry-level silver MB does not have a backlit keyboard.) The function keys have been rearranged a bit as well.

But while the keyboards look indistinguishable from one another, they feel different. The MacBook's is softer and similar to the former MacBook. The Pro's is clickier and similar to the former Pro's. See a pattern? Not visible with the naked eye, you can feel the lineage of these systems, evidence that Apple has not forgotten its history or the taste of its various demographics.

The screens, too, are deceptively different between the MB and MBP. Both share LED backlighting and the shiny screen coating that can be quite a distraction—a user will find himself staring at his reflection with any decent amount of ambient light. But it's important to note that, beyond the spec-sheet distinction of the 13-inch screen's 1280x800 pixels and the 15-incher's 1440x900, these are not identical LCD technologies in different sizes.

The difference is clear when demoing an MPEG4 of Batman Begins. The MBP screen is warmer than the MB's to the discerning eye, but any dunce will catch the massive differences in contrast and viewing angle. Our shots in the dark exacerbate the MB's less impressive black levels, but this photo really is close to what we saw. As for the unwatchable distortions in image quality when five feet out or standing at a not-so-unthinkable viewing angle, those are just as bad to the naked eye as they are to camera. Notice the MBP screen remains unblemished from any angle/distance.

One design element of note: Both screens now tilt back another 10 to 15 degrees over previous generations. If you've ever sat there watching a Windows person pushing your MacBook display past its rotation point, you'll recognize just how important this update will be.

Connecting to an old external screen, however, could be problematic. The DVI port has been replaced by a mini DisplayPort in both new laptops. As for your old monitor, no biggie, if it's 24-inches or smaller just use a mini-DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter ($30). But if you're driving a 30-inch monitor, you'll need a mini-DisplayPort-to-dual-DVI adapter, which isn't bundled with either laptop and runs $100 on its own. Ouch. We're hoping for an aftermarket solution.

In terms of other ports, the MB offers gigabit Ethernet, two USBs, mini DisplayPort, mic and headphone jack. Note the one major omission: FireWire. Even the $1000 plastic MacBook has FireWire, though in truth there isn't a lot of FW support these days beyond professional applications—even new iPhones and iPods have ditched it completely. Upgrading to the MBP gives you all the ports in the MB but adds FireWire 800 and an ExpressCard slot. (FW400 devices need to track down a FW400-to-FW800 cable.) Plus, both new MacBooks have the snazzy battery-life indicator on the side next to the ports.

Operation and Performance

Examine the MB and MBP under the hood, and it quickly becomes apparent that the similarities are more than skin deep. For instance, while the MB starts at 2.0GHz, its processor reaches 2.4GHz in the $1600 configuration. This processor is the exact same one that you'll find in the lower-tier $2000 MBP—including the same 3MB L2 cache and 1066MHz front side bus. In fact, the only MBP to reach a 6MB L2 cache starts at $2,500. In other words, there's not much CPU benefit in that $700 gap between the baseline aluminum MB and the entry-level MBP. Oh, and no matter what you're willing to spend, both the MB and MBP hold a maximum of 4GB of memory.

So where's the power difference? Aside from the optional 2.53 and 2.8GHz CPUs, it's mainly in the video processing. The MB features a GeForce 9400M integrated graphics card that promises to be 5X faster than similar offerings from Intel. The MBP features that same integrated graphics card, but then adds a 256MB or 512MB GeForce 9600M GT alongside of it. Just make sure to note that the MBP doesn't run its dual graphics cards simultaneously. Only one runs at a time—the low-power one when the MBP is in "Better Battery Life" mode, and the amped one when in "Better Performance" mode—and you need to log out of the system in order to switch from one card to the other. Some notebook makers such as Alienware allow a computer to do this on the fly, and even use both video cards at once for full-throttle performance. (For more on this, check out Giz Explains.)

Next-gen GPUs used to be of consequence for only gamers, but the next generation of OS X, Snow Leopard, promises to use the GPU for lots of subtasks, especially anything math intensive like encoding video. We're already seeing individual apps like those in Adobe's new CS4 making use of the GPU for non-gaming tasks. A faster GPU with the new OS just over the horizon won't just do 3D faster—it'll make your whole computer faster. (More here, here and here.)

To test out the CPU and GPUs, we put the new MacBook, last generation MacBook Pro, the new MacBook Pro with power savings and the new MacBook Pro running at full speed through XBench and Geekbench performance tests.

From a CPU standpoint, the metal MB really is just a tiny MBP (our tested processors have nearly identical clock speeds). So unsurprisingly, performance gains between our MB and MBP test systems were negligible. GeekBench confirmed that basic and floating point processing were pretty much the same across the board.

In XBench especially, you'll notice that the old MacBook Pro has an edge. Most of this performance gap can be explained by its slightly faster 2.6GHz processor. However, in real world application, when dealing with big chunks of data the newer MB's 1066 MHz front side bus will offer benefits not seen in this graph. Notice the small performance spike in the memory task in current gen laptops. That's because the new memory is clocked at a faster speed.

Still, benefits from the previous generation to this one, or from the MB to MBP are slim, often falling below 5 and 10% even in the limited GPU benchmark tests. The differences are there, sure, but the performance gains between the $1600 MacBook and $2400 MacBook Pro are not astounding.

But benchmark programs can be deceiving with simple tasks that don't take into account how the whole system fits together, especially when we're talking about graphics. So we tested the systems in a real world application that could most accurately judge its GPU power, 3D gaming. We loaded Spore.

Admittedly, Spore may not be the best graphics benchmark as its animations are a bit rough to begin with. Still, the MB has noticeably more pop-ins and seems to be struggling loading complete textures. Then toward the end of the MacBook clip as the ship zooms back to land, the MacBook's integrated graphics, even while rendering the scene at a far lower resolution, can't compete with with the MacBook Pro and its discrete graphics. Unplayable choppiness ensues.

Just for kicks, we ran Spore with the MacBook Pro in "Better Battery Life" mode to see what it would look like on the integrated GPU. Draw your own conclusions, but we still consider the performance a half step above that of the new MacBook—especially as the MBP is running the game in 1440x900 resolution. We'd attribute the performance gains to the slightly faster processor and extra 2GB of RAM. (On a side note, does anyone else notice that despite us cranking all test settings to high detail, there's obviously a software automated detail curve? The MB has fewer objects and less intricate textures than the power friendly MBP. And there's a similar jump between the power friendly MBP and the normal mode MBP.)

We'll be testing the GPU more in the future, but where the benchmarks came up short our eyes cannot be fooled. That integrated graphics card just doesn't compete.

According to Nvidia, those using Boot Camp should note that whatever power/graphics setting was last used in OSX will be applied to Windows. UPDATE: According to Apple, Boot Camp can only utilize the more powerful discrete graphics on the MBP.

But no matter how quickly these laptops are crunching numbers, the great news is, they're doing it with less lap heat. Both the new MB and MBP operate with cooler bottoms than before. Heat seems less likely to pool in the rear of the system now, and that's probably because of the unibody construction: Without rivets, screws or seams, it makes a great half-pound heatsink. This thermal update is critical, since Apple recently recalled a great number of their last-gen notebooks for heat-related video-card failures.

As for battery life, we tested the laptops under identical operation settings playing back an H.264 movie and then a DVD movie. (Screens were set to medium brightness, Wi-Fi on and keyboard backlighting on low.)

As you see, be it a digital download or an optical disc, it's tough to make it through any movie on the MBP. The DVD playback was worse even than older versions of the MBP. However, disabling discrete graphics in Power Saver mode buys over 40 minutes of DVD playback. So the good news is you'll make it through a movie. The bad news is that you'll have to neuter your MBP to get there.

So Who Needs The MacBook Pro over the Macbook?

In one word, pros. (Suiting, we know.) Video professionals will need the MBP because the MB no longer has FireWire, still a big deal for video guys. USB is fast, but its speeds aren't sustained. Those who use FireWire require predictable transfer rates, a connection that won't drop during realtime video playback from an external hard drive or capture from a video deck.

Anyone who requires an ExpressCard, too, will need to spend the extra cash on a MBP. Many 3G peripherals use this slot—and some correct Apple's willful memory-card ignorance by filling it with an SD/MS reader—but there are just as many USB peripherals, so its omission in the MB probably isn't as damning as FireWire's.

And then, of course, there's the group that requires the MacBook Pro's discrete graphics card with a half-gig of dedicated RAM. Large textures and massive Photoshop files require a level of performance that the basic MacBook's integrated graphics, even Nvidia's most boastworthy—just can't replace.

In this regard, we see the line drawn in the sand between the MacBook and the MacBook Pro. Similar processors, different graphics and FireWire and ExpressCard only if you pay up.

Through the course of this review, we've focused on what makes the new MacBook different from the new MacBook Pro. We've sifted every detail we could find in what we're sure looks like a lot of nitpicking. So let us make it clear: The new MacBook is our favorite MacBook to date, and the same can be said about the new MacBook Pro. In any application, Safari included, you can automatically scroll to the top of the page by tapping on the "top bar", which has the time, service bars, and battery. In Safari, this not only brings you to the top of the page, but also brings up the URL bar.

   2. Domain Resolution -
When typing a URL in Safari, you don't have to type the "www" or the ".com".For instance, for www.cnn.com just type "cnn" in the URL box. Note: Your search engine must be set to Google, not Yahoo.

   3. Domain Suffix - [On firmware 2.0 only]
Hold down the ".com" key for ".net, .edu, .org" keys. Note: Slide your finger from .com to .net/.edu/.org, rather than lifting and pressing.

   4. Press & Hold For Alternate Characters -
Hold a letter for a popup of various versions of the character (i.e. to type España with the "ñ" simply hold "n" and simply slide/release to the appropriate character).

   5. Click & Hold URL's -
In Safari, hold a link to see the URL and site name.

   6. Soft Reset -
Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep button to restart your iPhone. A white light will flash, the screen will shut off and then turn back on. Keep holding until the screen turns back on.

   7. Take a Screenshot -
To take a screenshot, hold the home button and click the sleep button. The screen will flash white and the screenshot will be stored in your camera roll.

   8. Set Parental Controls -
You can enable certain restrictions or parental controls on your iPhone. You can block explicit lyrics, Safari, YouTube, iTunes, or the App Store. Just go to Settings, General, Restrictions.

   9. Save Any Image from Safari -
To save any image from the web to your camera roll, simply press and hold the image. A menu will appear asking "Save Image" or "Cancel". Once the image is in your camera roll, you can set it as your wallpaper.

   10. Fast Forward/Rewind Music & Video -
Press and hold the skip forward/back arrows to fast forward or rewind rather than skip tracks. Also, press on the album art to manually FF/rewind.

   11. Delete Emails -
You can do both "bulk deletes" and "individual deletes" when browsing email. To do a bulk delete, simply click Edit, check off the desired emails, and then choose delete or move. To delete a single email, simply "cross it out" by swiping your finger across the email, then press delete.

   12. Double Tap Home Button -
Double tapping the home button has several useful functions, which are described here.

If Steve Jobs says the iPhone comes with Visual Voicemail, the iPhone really comes with Visual Voicemail. We simple users of the device don't get to disable it. That is unfortunate for those of us who travel internationally, because voicemail is really expensive when roaming abroad. The problem is that phone networks are also really dumb. All calls have to go through your home country, where they're forwarded to the roaming network, incurring international charges. Then, when the roaming network decides your call needs to go to voicemail, it sends the call back to you home network—incurring international charges a second time. You would normally call your voicemail box for the hat trick, and most of the time, the message is "Can you call me back?" or, after a long story, "I'll just e-mail you." (Can you tell that I'm not a big fan of voicemail?)

With Visual Voicemail, the first two steps and the last one are the same, but the good part is that you normally don't have to call voicemail: it's delivered to your iPhone where you can admire it in full visual glory. It turns out that the iPhone downloads voicemail messages over its 3G (or 2G) data connection, but not over WiFi. So, when I was in Dublin (where I turned off 3G data roaming to avoid the insane data roaming fees), I was presented with a badge on my phone icon that told me I had a message. But because the iPhone couldn't, well, phone home, it couldn't download the message—or even tell me how many messages I had. The badge was just a sad, empty circle. Strange.

However, if I had investigated a bit more, I would have known that even though the iPhone GUI doesn't let you disable voicemail, you can do this using industry standard GSM codes. If you look here or here you can find long lists of these codes. Experimenting with these codes shouldn't be harmful, except for one thing: you may "unregister" your voicemail forwarding in a way that it's not possible to manually enable it again unless you know the number. (The iPhone will probably do this for you if you restore it, but I didn't test this.)

The first thing you want to do is discover the number of your voicemail box. You can do this by typing *#61# and pressing "call." The iPhone will now tell you if voicemail is enabled and the number of your voicemail box. Copy down this number and keep it in a safe place.

Now that you know your voicemail box number, you should be able to forward all calls to it using Settings - Phone - Call Forwarding. This is—among other things—useful when roaming internationally: because this type of forwarding isn't conditional, the incoming calls don't have to go through the network where you're roaming, saving you a lot of money. (This is all in theory, and your milage may vary.) However, this didn't work for me. In fact, I was unable to set up call forwarding at all, regardless of the number.

And now, finally, disabling voicemail on the iPhone: type #004# and call. Enabling it again is done with *004# and call. I made two contacts for these numbers and made them favorites, so I can just "call" "VM disable" and "VM enable" from my list of favorites. You can also forward calls to a different number, or selectively enable/disable diverts for no answer (61 rather than 004), not reachable (62), or busy (67), and there are some other tricks as well. See the lists linked above.

Post scriptum: These codes generally work on all GSM-type networks, but there are no guarantees. I asked Jacqui, our fearless editor, to try this on her AT&T iPhone in the US, and it didn't work for her. Deactivation seemed to work, but both the "activate all conditional diverts" (*004#) as well as the individual ones (*61#, *62#, and *67#) resulted in errors. Despite all this, her voicemail kept working. Apparently, AT&T (and other US carriers) don't let their users disable voicemail—the only way to get this done is to call customer service.

Free Custom iPhone Ringtones using only iTunes

Create free ringtones for your iPhone using only iTunes and songs you already have on your computer (This method only works with songs that are DRM free. To create ringtones using DRM protected songs please use this method). This method has been tested and works with iTunes 7.7.1 and iPhone 2.0.1 firmware.

To create custom ringtones using only iTunes:

Right click on the song you are going to make into a ringer and select “Get Info.”

Go to the options tab and go down to the “Start Time” and “Stop Time” check boxes. Check both boxes and input the time you want your ringer to start/stop. The ringer has to be 30 seconds or less. Click OK when you’re done.

Right click on your newly “clipped” song and select “Convert Selection to AAC.” The song will be re-encoded using the start and stop times determined (If your menu item does not read “Convert Selection to AAC” and reads “Convert Slection to MP3″ (or some other format) please go to iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > Importing and change the “Import Using” drop down menu to “AAC Encoder”).

After the song is done encoding navigate to your iTunes Music folder, locate your song, and drag it to your desktop. After the song is on your desktop go back to iTunes and delete the clipped version from you iTunes library (It won’t delete it from your desktop, it will only remove it from iTunes).

Go back the song on your desktop and right click on your song and chose “Get info.” Go to the name and extension section and change the extension from .m4a to .m4r (or you can just change the extension right from your desktop)

After the extension is changed simply double click on the file to add it to your iTunes library under the ringtones section. Sync your phone with iTunes and you’re done!

Remember to go back into iTunes and uncheck your custom start and stop times for the original version of your song.

Create Ringtones for free with just iTunes

There are a few different ways to create ringtones for your brand new, shiny iPhone. While some bystanders might find the playing of your favorite song annoying, it can quickly inform you to exactly who is calling without taking the phone out of your pocket, purse, or man-bag. For instance whenever Clint Ecker hears the song Gin and Juice, he knows that that it's Ars Technica's Managing Editor Eric Bangeman on the other end, and he can ignore the call accordingly.

The Apple Blog offers a way of creating ringtones sans Garage Band or any other third-party software, and all it requires is an up-to-date copy of iTunes and a little time. It uses the start-stop time feature in the audio file's Get Info area, and requires you to cut the track down to the specific 30 seconds you desire. After that, you just convert the clip to AAC, drop it on your desktop, delete the file from iTunes, change the extension to .m4a or m4r, and then drop it back into iTunes. It's not the easiest process, but at least it is free.

Of course, there are more methods of doing this for free in addition to third-party applications that automate the process for a price. Either way, it's cheaper than paying Apple almost $2 a pop.

AudiKo is by far the best way of creating them. Easy and quick and most of the work is done for you if your fave tune is there anyways.

Over 100 bug fixes baked into Apple's Mac OS X 10.5.5 Update

For the second time in as many weeks, Apple has handed developers a new pre-release build of an upcoming maintenance and security release for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and asked that they spend the weekend testing the software.

Mac OS X 10.5.5 build 9F9 comes exactly one week after the Mac maker began widespread testing of Leopard update by privately distributed build 9F5 to its vast developer community.

Since then, the Cupertino-based company has implemented two dozen additional code corrections to bring the total number of bug fixes expected as part of Mac OS X 10.5.5 to more than 100, people familiar with the latest build say.

Among the more notable resolutions were fixes to Address Book printing, out-of-order replies and display problems with Mail app IMAP accounts, and syncing issues with both Address Book and iCal.

Those with knowledge of the ongoing beta test say Apple is also using build 9F9 to broaden developers' focus area from 18 core system components to 24. Some additions from last week's build include Directory Services, Fonts, mDNSResponder, Screen Sharing, and X11.

Unlike the previous build, however, Apple is no longer advising developers to abstain from installing the pre-release software on Macs that include integrated graphics cards.

Mac OS X 10.5.5 is presumed for a release by October, at which point it is expected to ship with support for a new generation of Macs that will include redesigned MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks.

Many times when working on a computer that has been infected with a virus,
trojan, or piece of spyware I find myself with my most important command,
Regedit, the Windows Registry Editor being disabled. Virus creators
like to disable the Registry Editor so it makes solving the problem
and removing the issue difficult.

Sometimes administrators in IT departments may place restrictions on
using the regedit command to keep employees from changes things on
company computers, but viruses and other issues may also try to disable
it.

Listed below you will find the different ways to enable regedit,
the RegistryEditor.

First we'll begin with the method that appears to work the best.

Method 1 - Enabling the Registry with VBScript

Doug Knox, a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional, has created a VBScript
that enables or disables the Registry Editor based on the following
location in the registry. Of course, since the registry editor is
disabled, you can't change it manually, so Doug wrote a Visual Basic
Script to accomplish the task.

Visit Doug's page and download Registry Tools VBScript to your desktop, double-click on it to run it, then reboot your computer and try to open the Registry Editor.

If this fix didn't solve your problem, try method two shown below.

Method 2: Use Symantec's tool to reset shell\open\command registry keys

Sometimes worms and trojans will make changes to the shell\open\command
registry entries as part of their infections. This will cause the virus
to run each time you try to run an .exe file such as the Registry Editor.
In these cases, visit Symantec's website and
download the UnHookExec.inf
file to your desktop. Right-click on it and choose Install. Restart your
computer and then try to open the Registry Editor.

Method 3: Rename Regedit.com to Regedit.exe

Some viruses and other malware will load a regedit.com file that is many
times a zero byte dummy file. Because .com files have preference over
.exe files when executed if you type REGEDIT in the run line, it will
run the regedit.com instead of the real regedit.exe file.

Delete the regedit.com file if its a zero byte file to restore access to REGEDIT. In some cases, such as the W32.Navidad worm, you'll need to rename the REGEDIT file to get it to work.

Method 4: Windows XP Professional and Group Policy Editor

If
you have Windows XP Professional and access to an administrative user
account, you could change the registry editor options in the Group
Policy Editor.
Click Start, Run
Type GPEDIT.MSC and Press Enter
Go to the following location

User Configuration
Administrative Templates
System
In the Settings Window, find the option for "Prevent Access to Registry Editing Tools" and double-click on it to change.
Select Disabled or Not Configured and choose OK
Close the Group Policy Editor and restart your computer
Try opening REGEDIT again

Although there are a few other ways, the above ways I have used with great
success in re-enabling the REGEDIT command. If you are interested in

Symptom(s):

Solution:
Customers with this problem should do following:

Boot into Safe Mode by holding down <Ctrl> during bootup or pressing <F8> when it says "Starting Windows".

Go into Display Properties and lower the screen resolution and refresh rate to 640x480 and 60 Hz (or adapter default). The screen resolution can be changed by going into Start > Settings > Control Panel > Display > Settings. The refresh rate can be change by clicking the "Advanced" button and selecting the "Adapter" tab.

Reboot in standard mode.

Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advanced. Select the "Adapter" tab. The driver information will appear. Click on the "Change" button.

The "Update Device Driver Wizard" window should open.

Click "Next".

In the next window, select the "Display a list" option and click the "Next" button.

Next, click on "Show all hardware".

In the split screen window under "Manufacturers:", select "(Standard display types)".

In the other half of the split window, select "Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA)"

Then click on the "Next" button.

Click on "Finish," then close all open windows.

When asked to restart, click on "Yes."

One of the somewhat frustrating properties of CSS is the fact that elements only stretch vertically as far as they need to. So how can we make all columns appear to be the same height? Several techniques was introduced to solve this issue.

Faux Columns- The simple secret is to use a vertically tiled background image to create the illusion of colored columns.

Equal Height Columns - revisited- A method to make all columns appear to be the same height but without the need for faux column style background images.

Hi ppl
it all started wen i was in the first year of engineering ( 2nd semester) that i asw a notice for a robotivc competition in my college.something within me told me to go for it. Me n some of my mallu friends formed a team n afer some research n hardwork for a week we were ready to showcase our new innovation. we did taste success in the first competition that we went to (IEEE at RAIT) bt we were nt able to reach the top.
A few morw design changes n lot more competitions did make us a pro in this field.
after first year the team broke up as we were from different branches n den i had to look for a new team which did take some time before we were ready to take on the world again. This time we had real success as we won the 2nd prize at an intercollege event n then added another feather on the cap by winning 1st prize in our college.
By the end of second year we had a few prizes in our kitty n lot of certificates n participating in the same type of events did make us loose a bit of interest.Then one fine day i met few fellows frm another college who had a great idea in their heads. though it was difficult road to walk upon but we did decide to take it .

This is how team FORMULA FUN was born.After almost 2 years of hard work n makin numerous changes n having done a lot os research , battling rain , heat n windy nights we finally won the SECOND PRIZE at the ELECRAMA 2008 held in MUMBAI. An international event where many natioanl teams participated n displayed their innovations.

Finally after spending the last 2 days (25 th n 26 th jan) at the TECHFEST 2008 IIT mumbai campus time has come for the formula fun team to hang our boots.

how to improve Windows Vista performance

Last week I wrote a post on how disabling search indexing can boost Windows vista performance. In this I will look at various methods which you can use to drastically Windows Vista performance.

Ok. You just bought your brand new laptop which comes pre-installed with Windows Vista. But unfortunately your new laptop performance looks worse than your pretty old laptop! Is there any way to improve it?

Well, as an operating system, Windows Vista is stable and I think it is just a matter of tuning to get it performing. Before I go into the methods, here is a word of advise. Get your machine atleast 1GB of RAM since Vista is really memory hungry!

1. Remove all junk software from your PC - Most of the online stores (Dell for example) bundle a lot of software when they sell a Windows Vista installed laptop/pc. You don’t need many of these software and hence removing them can substantially boost Windows Vista performance. First thing to do when you get your PC/Laptop is to remove everything except the bare minimum you need!

2. Disable Windows Defender - One of the biggest complaints about Windows operating systems was its vulnerability to viruses. To address this issue, microsoft added a lot of stuff into Vista, essentially making it bloated and cumbersome. Windows Defender is one such feature. If you are a power user who knows what can cause virus infection or security problems you don’t need Windows Defender.

To disable windows defender, go to control panel->administrative tools -> services -> windows defender and stop it. Also change the startup type to manual.

3. Disable UAC (User Access Control) - This is one of the most annoying features. Whenever you click on anything which affects system configuration, a popup comes up asking whether you want the operation to be executed! Of course, I want that, that is why I clicked on it! For a power user this is the first thing to disable.

To disable user access control, go to control panel->user account->turn user account control off.

4. Use ReadyBoost to extend RAM - If you have below 2GB or below, you can use readyboost feature of Vista to improve performance. For this, you will need a high speed USB 2.0 memory stick (flash drive). Vista will use this as an extension to RAM. This improves system performance and also reduces load on harddisk there by extending its lifespan.

5. Reduce graphics and other UI features - Windows Vista by default has a pretty jazzy user interface. If you are a power user, you rarely bother about these UI features. Disabling these features will dramatically reduce load on your processor and memory. This is one method sure to speed up your experience on Windows Vista.

To optimize system configuration for maximum performance, go to control panel->performance information and tools->advanced tools (on the left menu)->adjust the appearance and performance of windows->Select Adjust for best performance radio button and press Apply.

6. Remove unnecessary startup programs - You might have couple of startup programs configured. Remove all the unnecessary programs to reduce startup time and to improve overall system performance. Anti-virus programs are notorious for reducing system performance and increasing harddisk load.

You can check out startup programs using regedit command (use with caution!). Find all the startup programs under computer->HKEY_CURRENT_USER->Software->Microsoft->Windows->CurrentVersion->Run. (User can also use Windows Defender for this)

7. Disable unncessary services - Your system might have a lot of services which you may not need. But identifying them may not be very easy. Open up control panel->administrative tools->services and stop/disable services. Some of the services I disabled are Windows Search, Windows Defender, Windows Cardspace etc.

8. Disable Windows Search Indexing - As i have written earlier, disabling Windows Search indexing may improve performance substantially, especially when you have a new system.

9. Monitor tasks running - Monitor your task manager regularly. Look for any processes which hogs memory/processor resource. Also monitor for programs which may be accessing harddisk frequently. Find out the real use of resource intensive processes and if not required, remove them.

10. Buy a new PC/ upgrade RAM - If your system performance is still low, you probably need to buy a new PC to run Windows Vista. Also remember to have atleast 2GB RAM for optimal performance!

Before you try out any of the methods listed here, I suggest you install Firefox browser. For faster and smoother internet access, Firefox is the best browser available out there. When you are accessing proxy sites or similar sites ensure that you use Firefox not Internet Explorer.

Internet censoring is now everywhere. In my office Orkut is blocked since there was an Orkut virus scare. Countries such as China, Saudi Arabia etc. routinely block many websites. Interestingly entire blogger.com and similar blog sites were banned in India not long ago. So it is no wonder that many of us are looking for ways to access blocked websites.

Last week I did an investigation into the various methods available for bypassing website access restrictions. I have shortlisted them below as ” Top 10 methods to access banned websites”.

Top Ten methods to access banned websites

1. Use IP address - This is the simplest way to bypass domain name based access restrictions. Instead of the domain name such as www.webstuffscan.com use the direct IP address. To find the IP address use one of the free host to IP online conversion tools such as this.

2. Use Google cache - If you are not bothered whether the content is latest on a site, Google cache is best. Do a Google search for the site and then click on the cached link below the search results.

3. Use an Anonymizer - In this method you access a third party site which in turn routes your request to the required server. Some services provide URL encryption also. The problem is that most of these servers are no longer free. Do a google search for the latest list as this is a very dynamic area Following are some services which still works(free!),

Proxify - Hides original URL and provides an array of access of options. The is one of the best free servers.

Block Stop - New guy in the town!

Anonymouse - This works, but URL is visible and hence may be blocked by the filtering software.

4. Use Online Translation Tools - In this method, we can use the translation service as a web proxy. Following are the best links I know of. Again Google is your best friend for more resources.

Altavista Babel fish - In the above replace www.webstuffscan.com with the site you want. You can also visit Babel fish site.

Google Translate - Similar to Babel fish.

5. Use Google Mobile search - Google mobile search works, but output may not be optimal. This is very similar to using a Web proxy.

6. Use a public Proxy server - There are many free proxy servers out in the Web. Note that in order to use these you have to change internet connection settings in Internet Explorer or whatever browser you use. This is one such list.

7. Get web pages via email - This is useful if you need a single Web page. Obviously accessing large files is not possible. Given below are some examples.

You can use SEND http://www.yahoo.com/ in the body of the message and send it to agora@dna.affrc.go.jp to retrieve yahoo.com home page.

You can also check out services at web2mail which includes web page subscriptions.

G.E Boyd has an extensive list of servers. Note that many in the list are no longer working.

9. Use Tor Distributed Proxy - Tor is an advanced proxy server using multiple anonymous servers for a single Web request. This requires an application to be downloaded and installed.

8. Your own proxy server - This is an advanced technique and is probably the best. This requires your own proxy server hosted either at your home or at a hosting service provider. You can enable SSL encryption and prevent any snooping on the content as well. Also put some access control, otherwise someone can find the service and misuse it (Trust me, there are many who are looking for such an opportunity!).

Use Apache Web server as proxy server - A bit complex setup.

Use Privoxy - - This is the recommended approach. Please see this page for more details.

Use PHPProxy as a Web Proxy - You can use PHPProxy to setup a Web proxy.

10. Use alternate content providers - When everything fails, you can use alternate service providers. For example if Gmail is blocked at your place, you can take another obscure mail address and enable email forward at Gmail.

Important!

Be careful when you are using public proxy servers. It is possible for the guy who is hosting the service to snoop on the data that is passing through. So I wouldn’t recommend putting any important information such credit card details when you are using public proxy server method.

AudioAmplifier:fix iphone's low ringer volume problem

One of the complaints of the iPhone has surprisingly been iPhone's low ringer volume. It seems to be well below the standard, in terms of volume, established by other mobile handsets.

Most of the users have blamed iPhone's tiny speakers to be the culprit of this problem. However I had reported that the culprit in fact could be the audio itself and not the speaker and you could use a hack to fix this problem.

I had even published an iPhone tip on how to resolve the low volume problem of your iPhone's ringer by using a a loud, high frequency audio custom ringtone rather than ringtones currently available on the iPhone.

However, Erica over @ Tuaw had figured out that the Celestial framework folder (/System/Library/Frameworks/Celestial.framework/) had a Maximum Volume property list. She had observed that adjusting the Default -> Default value up to 0.99, up from 0.7 had boosted the iPhone's speaker volume.

iPhone hacking genius Nick "Drudge" Penree has apparently made use of this iPhone tip from Erica to develop a native iPhone application which will do all the work for you and thus save you of all the hassles. The iPhone App called AudioAmp is available as a package in Installer.app.

iPhone GPS Hack: Navizon Lite brings Virtual GPS to the iPhone for Free

One of features missing from the iPhone's rich feature list is a Global Positioning System (GPS), which is now rumored will be available only in the 2nd generation iPhone sometime next year along with 3G support.

Navizon had released its Virtual GPS product "Navizon" as a native iPhone application as an alternative to the lack of the GPS feature. However, after the 15 day fully functional trial period; you need to buy it for $24.99.

They have now released a freeware version of one of the popular native iPhone applications called Navizon Lite, which they claim is accurate to about 1500 meters (1 mile).

For those of you who like me are not familiar with this Virtual GPS stuff, then here is some information you might find useful. Navizon is a software-only wireless positioning system which triangulates signals broadcasted from Wi-Fi access points and Cellular towers. It is based on a collaborative database where users who have a GPS device can contribute data on Cell towers and Wi-Fi access points so that other members of the community can simulate a Virtual GPS on their phone.

Interesting?? Want to know how to install it on your iPhone? Then here is some more good news, Navizon's Virtual GPS Lite can be installed using the very cool Installer.app so installing it on your iPhone should not be too complicated.

Once you have Navizon installed on your iPhone, you need to first create an account at Navizon website which needs to be used to login using the Navizon application on your iPhone. All you then needs to do is just click on the "Locate Me" button and see where Navizon puts you on the map.
Navizon claims that this version of Virtual GPS will let you get your position using the closest cell towers around you with an accuracy of approximately 1500 meters (1 mile), something similar to what Google Maps offers with its "My location" feature.

If you are looking at more accuracy then you can check out Navizon (full version) as it includes the power of Wi-Fi positioning combined with Cellular positioning, offering you an accuracy of approximately 10 to 30 meters in an urban setting. The full version will set you back by $24.99.

However, based on initial feedback on Virtual GPS since it is works on peer to peer positioning; it might not work well everywhere as some have complained of getting "Unable to Locate - Your location could not be identified. No Known Cells or Wi-Fi nodes in range" error messages. It is also recommended to try the "locate me" option twice (at least on the first attempt) since the Wi-Fi scanner takes some time to be fully operational.

AIRTEL 8Mbps plan sucks

I knew about this a week or so before it actually rolled out into the market and was talking with one of my IT guys and both of us were very kicked about the speed, more so since we are both heavy on downloading.

But more disappointment’s than excitement post the launch. While the speeds are excellent what tends to really play foul are the download limits assigned. The cheapest 8Mbps plan is priced at 2222/- per month. Take a look at the excel below where i compare it to the 256 plan i have currently.

Key Things to Note

1. The GB Limit will be reached in 2.4 minutes approximately.

2. 8Gb is equal to roughly only 12 movies.

3. If you were to keep downloading for another 2.2 minutes post crossing the limit i.e another 8GB ,the additional charges which would apply would be 0.90 Paise x 8000 MB = 7200 Rupees.

4. Cost per movie is 202 rupees which is more than what original VCD’s would cost.

So all kudos to Airtel to launch such plans but they need a more competitive pricing policy. Maybe come up with top up options which would allow users to make their plans unlimited. For someone like me, and a lot many more in India where downloading is a big activity these plans tend not to appeal eventually.

Incidentally, i would also request everyone reading this to please visit the Airtel site and look at the current broadband packages. Airtel appears to be deleting a lot of the previous options which were available, if yours is one that does not appear to be there but you are still getting a net connection, they might have put you on a different plan on their own. As illogical as it may sound , Airtel’s customer care executives made it very clear that the company was under no obligation to inform customers of plan changes. I mentioned this earlier as well on a post here.

Will O’Brien over at Hack a Day posted this cool iPhone Hack. The guys over at The Part Foundry have made a device that allows you to use GPS with your iPhone.

If you're a regular visitor (reader) of my blog, you'll probably know that I really like optical illusions. Here's another article about this phenomenon, now it's all about optical illusions with words.

I'll start off with a classic. Check out the following image.

Say aloud the ink color of each word. How quickly can you do it? Did you slow down?

The next one is a really cool wedding card. When the card is closed, you'll see the name of the bride. When opened, the name of the groom will appear. Can you discover the names of the newly weds?

This one is pretty strange. Just look at the words below. Doesn't make any sense, does it? Now sit back and try to read the text. The text will explain itself.

What do you read here? Most people will read evil, but some will see the good in life at the first time.

Somewhat simular to the previous illusion. When you don't see the womans reflection in the mirror, you'll read hate. But when you see her reflection, you'll see her true self.

When looking at the following illusion, you'll probably read the word Life. But when you look closer, you'll see the characters are pretty messed up.

10 Absolute "No's!" for Freelancers

When I first started freelancing as a college student, I was eager to do any website and would say "Yes" to anything, regardless of my skill set or the time involved. It was just nice to know that someone needed me for a skilled task. Unfortunately, I quickly found myself working all the time, eating Ramen noodles, and not getting anywhere in terms of paying off my wonderful college debt. To make things worse, these people were also giving my contact info out to other such people (you know, the lady who has been thinking about selling dog sweaters online and has a $100 budget for an e-commerce site, 1000 brochures, and a guranteed #1 Google search result for the "dog", "sweater", and "love").

Anyways, now four years later, my world (AND financial success) now requires ample use of the answer "No." And here are ten questions I nearly always answer "No" to:

1) Can you show me a mock-up to help us choose a designer/developer? No.
I fell for this once when I was young and naive. I made no money and wasted lots of time. Don't do unpaid work for the chance to be paid -- this wouldn't fly in any other industry, so why web design? The best case scenario (though rare) is that you get a job with a client who knows that you'll work for free when necessary. The worst case scenario is that they don't pay you, and still use your stuff, knowing you don't have the legal resources to do anything about it. Most likely though, you’ll just waste time.

2) Can you give us a discount rate? No.
There are ALOT of companies out there that do not see web design as a service worth more than $20 an hour. These should never be your clients. In my early post-college years, I used to value "getting the job" so highly, I would take on an inordinate amount of work for the pay. Let me tell you that it's not worth it. Ever. Remember, you may be doing this company a favor, but on the flip side, you're hurting your own future, and your family's. Nowadays, I give my hourly rate immediately, and it weeds out many potential clients. It's simple math really -- if doubling your rate loses half your client work, then you're still making as much in half the time. If you do excellent work, get paid for it – there will always be comparable "firms" charging double what you are.

3) Will you register and host my site? No.
Sure it seems like a good idea -- free recurring revenue right? Well, maybe... if you can first get them to pay, and then if you can justify making $10 a month for the endless phone support you'll have to give at all hours of the night. You see, once the client thinks that you are responsible for their email and website functionality, you WILL get called all the time when their email shows the slightest wavering or their website 404's for any reason on their home computer. Believe it or not, I've even known someone who had a client call about his cell phone functionality just because my friend hosted his site. Don't do it...it's not worth it. Give them a registrar and hosting company and let them sign up themselves.

4) Can you copy this site? No.
Now you may think that I answer "No" strictly from a moral standpoint, and although that is true, there are other equally important reasons. First, if they're copying a site, they have shady ethics themselves and the chances of you getting paid on time and in the full amount are unlikely. Second, doing this type of work reduces you to a monkey, and although some of your work may be like this to pay the bills, why purposely pursue it? Third, if it's a true copy, the only benefit you may receive is payment - you really won't get to use it for a portfolio or example work, and furthermore, this type of client is one you do not want work from in the future.

5) Can I pay for my e-commerce site from my website sales? No.
I hate to be the pessimist, but when I am asked this, I want to tell them that they most likely won't make any money so they might as well ask me to do it for free. Yes, I know there are exceptions, so sometimes I will ask them about their business, marketing, and revenue plans, which 99% of them don't have. They just thought that selling T-Shirts would a novel idea for he internet. I usually go into a spiel about having to support me and my family, and I can't do it with speculative work -- I then recommend Yahoo! Shopping or CafePress, and 9 times out of 10, they never get their site up anyways.

6) I have a great idea. Do you want to...? No.
Not much different from #5, but could be a much larger time waster if you buy in. Again, not trying to be a jerk, but if the person adds little to the potential business outside of speaking an idea, then any work you proceed to do is mere charity (which you may be okay with). But to be honest, I'd rather be charitable with my family and friends and make them partners for free versus a stranger. Trust me, if some really has a great idea, they'll make you partners AND pay you as well.

7) Do you have an IM account? No.
I might give it out if it's to a person I can trust during an intensive project, but as a general policy, I tell clients that it's my general policy not to. The reason here is obvious -- you have a life and other clients beyond them. Many clients see you as an on-call employee, and this is bad. This is why you quit your day job...

8) Can I just pay the whole amount when it's done? No.
I require 50% up front (unless it's a huge job -- then maybe 33%). I need that assurance that they have "bought in" on this project, and that I can plan on the income, pay bills, and eat. People who want to pay at the end are much more likely to back out after you've done tons of work.

9) Is there any way you could get this done tonight or this weekend? No.
Once they know that you helped them out one time, they will expect it in the future. Now you might choose to get extra done at night (I do all the time), but don't start making promises about getting things done at night or on the weekends/vacation. I know a lot of freelancers that charge night/weekend hours as well, so that might be a possible route to take as well. Because the reason you freelance is for the freedom, right? Right?

10) Can I be sure you won't use this work in anything else? No.
This is a very sensitive subject because most clients misunderstand it (intellectual property is a tricky subject anyways). In my Terms and Conditions that I require all new clients to sign, I make sure they know that (1) their code has utilized code from other projects which I haven't charged them for (2) I will probably use code from their project on other projects (3) the own the code and implementation of the project (finished website), but not the actual code pieces (login system, image uploader, etc.). I pride myself in productivity and speed, and I need to use other code all the time to accomplish this. Not to mention that I sell stock Flash which I may need old code to help build. They're not paying you to create code that they in turn will sell, so make sure they know that it's the implementation and not the coding that's theirs.

The 3.0 beta has a revamped interface and title/tag/description editing, but the unique features are the photo set editing and the ability to start labeling on another photo while the last batch is uploading. The Flickr Uploader 3.0 beta is a free download for Windows and Mac systems. Those not fond of beta installations can get much of the same functionality with jUploadr, but the Flickr Uploader looks like it's going to be a slicker solution when finished.

Scribd allows embedding of PDF document in web page. If you want to embed your own PDF document, then it upload it to the Scribd. Scribd allows users to upload office files for free and no need to register for uploading files. But registering has its own advantages, it gives you option to make your uploaded documents to be private otherwise they are public.
After uploading PDF document, click on the file that is to be embedded.
PDF file is enlarged and you have some options on the side, click on the Advanced link in the Embed section.
In the next page you will find ScribdPaper Embedding Code. There add required width and height in pixels. There you have additional option for displaying from which page ie., start page the document is displayed. With this option you can skip some pages from the starting of the document.
Click on resize.
If you are satisfied with the display of the document then copy the Embed code.
Paste the code in the 'Edit HTML' section of your Blogger post.
Click on Preview.
Whole document is displayed.

GMAIL 2.0: THE NEW AVTAAR

A major upgrade to Gmail
is getting the thumbs down from users who complain that the new version
is extremely slow, often fails to load pages and even crashes their
browsers.
People have flooded discussion forums with complaints since Google began "upgrading" users about two weeks ago to the new version, popularly referred to in the blogosphere as Gmail 2.0.
Ironically,
Gmail 2.0, which features an upgraded contacts manager, is designed to
be faster and more stable. Gmail 2.0 is based on what a Google
spokesman calls "a major structural code change" upon which new
features will be launched in coming months.
"Most users should see a marked improvement in performance. We recommend using IE7 and Firefox 2 to take full advantage of Gmail's speedier interface," said spokesman Jason Freidenfelds via e-mail.
Asked
about the problems users are reporting, Freidenfelds didn't address the
complaints specifically but said that Google appreciates the feedback
it's getting. "The new code underlying Gmail should allow us to roll
out performance improvements more frequently," he said.
Users interviewed via e-mail for this article report a variety of performance problems with Gmail 2.0.
The
most common complaint is that it is generally very slow, with delays of
a minute or more when attempting to display the inbox upon logging on,
to record keystrokes when typing text and to respond to mouse clicks.
Often the tasks time out. Others report that Gmail 2.0 repeatedly
crashes or freezes their browsers, in particular Firefox.
If
these users switch to the "old" Gmail version, the problems go away.
However, these users say they have to switch manually every time they
log on, because Gmail 2.0 automatically became their default version
once they got upgraded to it.
When Google upgraded his account last week, Jim Sellers, a software programmer based in Ottawa, Canada, was eager to try Gmail 2.0's improved contacts manager, but his Firefox 2.0 browser kept crashing both on Windows 2000 and Mac OS X 10.4.
"These
problems were very disruptive. I spend at least 25 percent of my day
using my browser as one of my main working tools. To have it crash like
that made the new version of Gmail a non-option," said Sellers, an
otherwise satisfied Gmail user since June 2004.
As a workaround,
Sellers has bookmarked the URL for the "old" Gmail version. However,
others expressed worry that Google at some point will phase out access
to the "old" Gmail without having fully resolved problems.
Some
users interviewed also complained that Google didn't notify them that
they would be moved to Gmail 2.0, or give them an option to decline the
upgrade.
Others, on the other hand, trust Google will soon solve the issues. That's the case of Jack Freeman, a retiree in Oklahoma
who, for lack of broadband options in his area, has learned to live
with, and make the best of, his relatively slow dial-up connection.
For
example, he enjoys posting answers in Google discussion forums, and in
recent days has been addressing a lot of questions about the slowness
of Gmail 2.0. Freeman's solution to the delays has been to toggle
between the two versions of the service. "It is still my favorite
e-mail program," Freeman said.
Google is moving people progressively to Gmail 2.0, so some users have it and others don't.
Google
didn't immediately reply to a series of follow-up questions, so it's
not clear what percentage of people have access to the new version and
how many are experiencing problems with it. It's also unclear when
Google expects to have everyone on the new version and when the
performance problems be solved.
What's clear is that the problems
have unleashed a storm of complaints. A search, sorted by date, for
"Gmail slow" in the Gmail Help Discussion forum returns about 35 pages
of results related to problems with Gmail 2.0.

Docstoc describes itself as a Youtube for documents. The site has thousands of user-uploaded legal and business docs that can be searched, browsed and downloaded free of charge. What makes Docstoc such a useful tool for blogs is that all the documents are embeddable, allowing you to display pdfs, Word docs and Excel files in an intuitive flash reader from within your posts. Find a cool doc while browsing around Docstoc that your readers would be interested in? Maybe you run a blog about entrepreneurship and run across a great business template. 3. Useful: Show Me Widget

When it comes to blogging, the importance of staying connected with the community cannot be understated. “Show Me” is a widget that displays links to all of your profiles on social networks around the web, providing a quick-and-easy way for your audience to connect with you and follow your content on multiple networks. This widget that won’t work quite as well for blogs with multiple authors (such as this one), but for personal blogs this is a great tool. 4. Cool: ClustrMaps

For a tool that has some of the most instant “wow” appeal out of all the widgets out there, check out ClustrMaps. After submitting your URL, ClustrMaps gives you embeddable code that will display who is currently viewing your blog by geographic location. By now, most of you have probably seen these around the blogosphere, and for good reason: the experience of having a truly global view of where your readers are coming from is awesome. Sure, we all know that the web is international, but being able to actually see where your visitors are coming from around the planet is a different story. The widget is free for sites that have less than 2,500 visitors daily.

5. Useful: Google Webmaster tools

If you at all serious about your blog, or even if you’re mildly interested in your audience/traffic, you need to be taking advantage of Google’s awesome webmaster tools. When beginning to utilize these tools, you should first go to web crawl diagnostics to make sure Google has indexed your site and doesn’t have any problems crawling your pages. Second, take a look at the top search queries page. It tells you which keywords people have been using to find your site. With this information in hand you can make an effort to tailor content around what your readers are interested in. Another tool that doesn’t fall in the same category of these but is a must-have is Google Analytics, a free, simple and powerful tool that gives you heaps of information about who is visiting your site and what they are doing on it. It’s a great way to get to know your audience. Combine all of Google’s tools and you’re on your way to becoming a very informed blogger.

Expanding on this tip which shows you how to find music in open directories, here’s a step-by-step walkthrough on how to use Firefox Smart Keyword searches to speed up the process.

All you need to do is:

Create a bookmark in Firefox

Use the URLs in this text file as the bookmark location in your Firefox bookmarks (like in the pic above)

Assign a keyword to it - eg. music

Type the keyword (eg. music) followed by the search term (eg. beatles) directly into the address bar (NOT the search box). For example… type in music beatles , and Google will search open directories for Beatles music files that you can download.

You can modify the code in the text file to change file extensions, which opens a whole window for you. For example, you can even change it to PDF and DOC to look to e-books, or AVI and MPG to look for movies.

Here are 7 little known tips which will help you save time, and make the most of out of PowerPoint!

1. How to turn embedded files into images

Put any chart or table inside a PowerPoint file and you may have a lot more information embedded, than what you actually display on the slide. That would be fine if you want your users to double click on the embedded object and edit it themselves, but what if you wanted the embedded information truly hidden?

All you need to do is select an area around the object, then select Grouping–> Ungroup –> Group. This will instantly convert any objects in your selection into images so you don’t have to worry about your users double clicking on an embedded object and digging around.

2. How to save images from a PowerPoint deck

To extract pictures from a PowerPoint file, just export it as a HTML web page. (Click File –> Save As –> then Select .html from the File Format drop down menu). All the images will neatly be stored in a directory for you.

Of course, if you only need a few images from the deck, just right click the image and select Save As Picture

3. How to master keyboard shortcuts for PowerPoint

Like all MS-Office programs, PowerPoint comes with it’s own set of keyboard shortcuts as well. I’ve summarized 15 of my favourite ones which will shave off time from your presentation preparation.



4. How to save space with PowerPoint decks that have large images

To make your presentations more lightweight you should consider compressing images by slightly lowering the resolution or removing cropped areas which you’re never going to see anyway. To do that, try the following:

Step 1: Right click on any image to bring up the menu and choose Format Picture
Step 2: Click on the Picture tab, then Click the Compress button
Step 3: Select All pictures in document, Print, Compress pictures, and Delete cropped areas of pictures.

5. How to align objects better in a slide

PowerPoint has a very useful option called ‘Snap to Grid’ which allows all objects to be easily aligned on a slide, but snapping it onto a virtual grid on your slide. To enable this:

On the Drawing toolbar, point to Draw, and then click Grid and Guides

Under Snap to, check it the Snap objects to grid check box is selected

Now drag a few objects around in a slide, and you’ll note that it’s much easier to align them properly.

6. How to move an object one pixel when your grid is turned on

Rather than turning the grid on and off every time you want to do some finer alignment, (e.g. moving an image one pixel to the left or right), all you need to do is hold the ‘Alt’ button and move the object with your mouse. Holding down the ‘Alt’ button will override the grid settings.

7. How to easily change from CAPS to lower case (or vice versa)

If you have text that is in the wrong case, select the text, and then click Shift+F3 until it changes to the case style that you like. Clicking Shift+F3 toggles the text case between ALL CAPS, lower case, and Initial Capital styles.

Intel launches world’s first 45nm processors

Intel extended its lead in microprocessors today by launching the world’s first 45nm microprocessors. Along with the new “Penryn” 45nm processors being launched today, Intel is also launching the “Seaburg” chipset designed for the HPC (High Performance Computing) chipset which is timed perfectly with this week’s supercomputing conference. The Seaburg chipset coupled with the new CPU was codenamed “Stoakley”. Both the new processor and chipset will officially be called the 5400 series processor and chipset.

The new 5400 series processor is built on a brand new 45nm process using High-K dielectrics and dramatically cuts power consumption. Its key performance enhancements over the previous generation Intel 65nm processors are higher clock speeds, 50% more level-2 cache, enhanced SSE3, brand new SSE4 instruction set which can double the performance of video encoding, enhanced dividers. The following is a table of the new server and HPC workstation processors launched today. Note that the FSB 1600 models are designed for the new 5400 series chipset whereas the FSB 1333 and 1066 models will work on the existing 5000 series “Blackford” chipset which Intel launched back in mid 2006.

The new 5400 series chipset supports 128 GBs (16 x 8 GB DIMMs) of Fully Buffered DDR2-800 whereas the older 5000 series chipset only supported Fully Buffered DDR2-667. The new chipset also features a 50% larger 24 MB snoop filter which allows for more efficient cache indexing. Another key feature that is interesting to the HPC market is the inclusion of PCI-Express generation 2. PCI-Express generation 1 was throttling the performance of high-end InfiniBand adapters because of a lack of bandwidth and PCI-Express generation 2 solves these problems.

Another chipset that received very little press and attention is the new “San Clemente” chipset which is part of the “Cranberry Lake” platform. This new chipset uses registered DDR2-533 or DDR2-667 memory and has a peak Front Side Bus of 1333. It will have a peak memory capacity of six double-rank DIMMs which realistically means you can put 24 GBs of RAM in the system using six 4GB DIMMs. San Clemente uses the ICH9R south-bridge for storage which is the same storage controller used in the new Intel 3-series desktop chipsets and it has even better storage performance than the already-fast ICH8R chipset.

The new San Clemente chipset also lacks PCI-Express generation 2. Despite the shortcomings of San Clemente compared to the high-end Seaburg 5400 series chipset, it has some phenomenal performance/watt characteristics when it’s coupled with the 3 GHz 80W TDP chips and less power hungry un-buffered DDR2 memory. The tradeoff here is that you only get 3/8th the memory capacity of the Seaburg chipset but it may be enough for most applications. This makes the Cranberry Lake platform ideal for very high density blade solutions where performance/watt and reasonable power ceilings per rack are paramount.

Microsoft Fixes Critical Windows Bug

URI problem, a critical Windows bug that has been exploited
by online criminals.

updates, fixing a critical Windows bug that has been exploited
by online criminals.

Microsoft released just two security updates this month, but
security experts say that IT staff will want to install both of
them as quickly as possible. The MS07-061update is particularly
critical because the flaw it repairs has been seen in Web-based
attack code, said Amol Sarwate, manager of Qualys's vulnerability
research lab. "This was a zero day [flaw] that was being used in
the wild by hackers," he said.

The flaw has to do with the way Windows passes data between
applications, using a technology called the URI (Uniform Resource
Identifier) protocol handler. This is the part of Windows that
allows users to launch applications -- an e-mail or instant messaging
client, for example -- by clicking on a Web link. Because Windows
does not perform all of the security checks necessary, hackers
found ways to sneak unauthorized commands into these Web links
and the flaw could be exploited to install unauthorized software
on a victim's PC.

This type of flaw lies in both Windows and the programs being
launched by the Web link and Microsoft had initially said that
it was up to third-party software developers to fix the issue.
It later reversed this position and decided to fix the flaw in
Windows as well. These URI protocol handler problems have turned
up in Adobe, Firefox and Outlook Express.

Microsoft was forced to revise its position on the URI bugs after
researchers discovered that they were far more problematic than
first thought, said Nathan McFeters, a security researcher with
Ernst & Young, who has been studying this problem. "I think that
early on it wasn't clear that this was an issue," he said via e-mail.
"There's really a handful of issues with this URI use and abuse stuff."

Microsoft's patch for this problem is rated critical for Windows XP
and Windows Server 2003 users, but the bug does not affect Windows
2000 or Vista, Microsoft said.

The second vulnerability, rated "important" by Microsoft, has to do
with Windows DNS (Domain Name System) servers, which are used to
exchange information about the location of computers on the Internet.
Attackers could exploit this flaw to redirect victims to malicious
Web sites without their knowledge, something known as a "man in the
middle" attack. "All system administrators should look very closely
at this vulnerability," Sarwate said. "I would have personally rated
it as critical," he said.

Security experts were surprised that Microsoft did not include a patch
for a known vulnerability in some Macrovision antipiracy software that
has been shipping with Windows for the last few years. Microsoft has
said that it plans to patch the problem and that it is aware of
"limited attacks" that exploit this vulnerability to get elevated
privileges on a victim's machine.

The bug lies in the secdrv.sys driver built by Macrovision that ships
with Windows XP, Server 2003 and Vista, but Vista is not vulnerable
to the problem, according to Microsoft.

Macrovision has also published a ...patchpatch for this problem.

Its a "bit worrisome" that Microsoft hasn't pushed out a patch for
the bug, given that Macrovision has already made its fix available,
said Andrew Storms, director of security operations with nCircle Network
Security, via instant message. "However, [it's] understandable that
Microsoft would want to run the patch through its QA [quality assurance]
and software release cycles," he added. "Given the choice between the URI
bug and the Macrovision fix, enterprise security operations teams would
much rather have the URI fix."

Users of Microsoft's WSUS (Windows Server Update Services) update system
had been wondering if they were going to get Tuesday's patches, after a
Microsoft programming error knocked WSUS administration consoles offline
on Sunday and Monday. Microsoft had misnamed an entry in WSUS's database
causing the consoles to crash.

The problem was fixed on Monday, said Bobbie Harder, a Microsoft senior
program manager, in a blog posting. But WSUS servers that synchronized
with Microsoft between 5 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. Monday Pacific Time
will need to resynchronize to avoid the problem.

Though she had heard of one user who had to manually updated his WSUS
server, Tuesday's updates went off without a hitch, said Susan Bradley,
a WSUS user who is chief technology officer with Tamiyasu, Smith,
Horn and Braun, Accountancy.

Eight great iPod hacks, mods and tricks

The iPod is a deeply personal device. The music, contacts, calendars
and notes you store on it reveal much about your personality. From
playcounts to playlists, our iPods can tell others what we enjoy,
how we think and even who we are. But if you truly want to
transform your iPod into an engine of extreme personal expression,
why not customize it?

Hacking an iPod—whether it’s modding the case, installing custom
software, or tearing it up and doubling the memory—can transform
the ubiquitous music and media player into something unique.
Once again, Playlist has scoured to net to find the hottest
iPod hacks, mods and customizations. As always, you should
be aware that trying any of these tricks carries the risk of
ruining your device. We present these for the curious, but
urge you to exercise caution before even considering any of
them. Keep in mind that if you crack open your iPod and
destroy it in the process, Apple isn’t going to take pity
on you. In other words, don’t try this at home.

1. Penguin Power

We went over this customization in our last look at iPod
hacks, but we’re featuring it again as iPod Linux is the
essential hack, table stakes for many of the other hacks
you might want to try. It’s fully supports iPods in generations
1-3, and has been successfully installed on all others with
a display—which doesn’t necessarily indicate that you’ll
be successful yourself. You should also grab a copy of
Podzilla, which will add a graphical interface to iPod
Linux. There are multiple flavors of Podzilla available
for you to choose from. Once installed, iPod Linux and
Podzilla will let you boot up your iPod to a bare-bones Linux
mode. Furthermore, it will serve as the foundation for many
other hacks, both ones listed here and those in our previous guide.

2. Knowledge to Go

Everyone loves Wikipedia. It’s the free user-built encyclopedia
with entries on more topics than Britannica. It’s a great
information resource, but what if you’re away from your desk?
Now you can get it on your iPod and carry Wikipedia with you
everywhere you go. Unfortunately, it’s not yet available for
all models of iPods, nano and video users are left out for now.
(And obviously, since there is no display on the iPod shuffle,
there is no point to installing Wikipedia.) You first will need
to install iPod Linux.

3. Double your Damage

One of the two most daring iPod hacks we’ve come across was this
build featured on multiarcade. Not content with the 4GB of memory
iPod nano? So why not double it. Not for the faint of heart,
performing this hack requires that you conduct some major
surgery on your nano. First you’ll need to buy a broken nano
from eBay. Next up, crack it open and remove the memory. Then,
and here’s where it gets really dicey, you’re going to want to
open up your working nano. Finally, you’ll solder the memory chip
from the broken nano to the empty pad in the working one, seal
it back up, and perform a factory reset. You’ll now either have
one working nano with 7.2 GB of space, or two useless ones. Either
way, this courageous hack should make for a fun-filled weekend
project.

4. Mobile Movies

If you have a lot of movies on DVD, odds are you’ve thought of
transferring them to your iPod. Doing so is relatively easy
using free software available for both the Mac and Windows.
Be warned: unless you use an analog capture method, the DMCA
makes it illegal for you to take the movies you own on DVD and
put them on your iPod.

For Mac (and Linux) users, the process couldn’t be easier. All
you need is a copy of the free utility Handbrake. Handbrake is
already available as a Universal binary—good news for those who
have a new Mac Book Pro, Mac mini, or iMac—and can rip video from
DVD directly to mpeg-4 video, the format you’ll need to watch it
on your iPod.

Windows users need to make a few extra steps. First, you’ll
need to find a DVD ripping program, such as DVDFab Decrypter or
DVD Decrypter. Next, you’ll want to convert your video to AVI
using a decoding tool. Finally, it’s time to convert that AVI
file into mpeg-4 video that can play on your iPod, Videora iPod
Converter is a great
tool for this last step.

5. iPod to TV on the Cheap

This hack is almost the reverse of the previous one, at least in
terms of what it accomplishes. Want to watch content from your
iPod on your TV? You can easily do so by purchasing the $19 iPod
AV cable from Apple. But where’s the fun in that? Apple notes that
other AV cables are not compatible with iPods with color displays.
But that’s not completely true. You can accomplish the same task
using a standard mini-jack to three-plug RCA cable. Since these
cables tend to run southwards of ten bucks, it makes for a
slightly cheaper way watch your iPod videos on your TV set.
Set your iPod to output to TV, plug in the cable via the minijack,
and you’re nearly there. The final step is to simply plug the RCA
connections into your TV using a non-standard setup. Apple outputs
the iPod’s video to the red cable—rather than the traditional
yellow. So you’ll want to plug the red cable into the video
(yellow) plug on your TV, the yellow cable into the white plug,
and the white cable into the red plug. This is an easy hack that
anyone with an iPod video can try.

6. Pac Attack

Growing up, I spent endless hours in front of an arcade console,
popping pills and running from ghosts. Now I can re-live those
glory days with my iPod, thanks to iPodMAME, which allows me to
play Pac-Man right on my iPod. This hack will install a version
of MAME, the arcade game emulator program, on your iPod. As with
the Wikipedia hack, iPodMAME requires that you first install
iPodLinux. The program comes with romsets (the set of files
including all the game data) including one for Pac-Man, however others
should be able to be added. To date, iPodMAME has only been tested on
the 5G iPod with video and the iPod nano, but the creator notes that
it should work on any iPod with a color screen.

7. Radio Free Shuffle

As always, Jim Younkin’s Shufflehacks site is a great source
of inspiration. And one of the recent hacks he posted was no
exception. This risk-free hack will let you turn your iPod shuffle
into a portable radio station—perfect for taking your shuffle with
you on a road trip. The build notes offer instructions on how to
build a radio transmitter that plugs into your shuffle (or other
MP3 player). The example on Shufflehacks uses a computer mouse
for a body to house the radio, perfect for an über-geeky customization.

8. Scratchless Super Screen

There are only two complaints we hear about the iPod with any
degree of regularity. The first is that the screens can be easily
scratched, and the second is that they’re all the same. This
hack takes care of both of those complaints. Note that we include
this last mod not because we think you should try it (we don’t!),
but rather because it’s so daring. Like the memory doubling hack
featured above, this is a good way to ruin your iPod. But that
didn’t stop Seth Fogie from cracking open his iPod and scratch-
proofing the display. Noting that the faceplate on the Sony PSP
is more bulletproof than that on the iPod, and that it nearly
matched the iPod’s in terms of size, Fogie set about
two of them out. Fogie completely disassembled his iPod, and then
filed down his PSP faceplate to fit. After re-assembling everything,
he was left with a “Scratchproof” iPod. While we don’t suggest you
try this at home, we’d love to hear about it if you do.

An iPod is more than just a music player; it's an Information device.
Not only can you use your iPod to play music from your favorite
singer or band, you can use it to listen to radio recordings,
listen to "audio weblogs" (known as podcasts), and more. In this
article I'll show you some tips for getting the most out of
your iPod. I'll also explain how to manipulate the files stored on
your iPod.

Tip #1 -- Recording Internet Radio

You have seen many FM radio transmitters designed for the iPod,
but you haven't seen (but perhaps have heard of) radio receivers
for the iPod. For whatever reasons, you are unlikely to see FM
radio receivers for your iPod anytime soon. So what do you do if
you want to listen to radio broadcast using your iPod?

Fortunately, internet radio broadcasting is making radio broadcast
easily accessible, especially if you want to tune in to overseas
radio broadcasts. To listen to radio on your iPod, you need to
save the radio broadcast into your Mac and then copy it onto your iPod.

My favorite is the Oleg Kibirev's RadioRecorder, a free application
under the General Public License version 2.

Using the RadioRecorder is straightforward -- simply type the
URL of the broadcasting station and you are ready to record. The
radio program is recorded as MP3 files and thus you need to ensure
you have sufficient disk space on your Mac before you do the actual
recording (since MP3 files are relatively huge). From my experience,
one minute of recording takes up approximately 1MB of disk space,
so budget for it.

The RadioRecorder also allows you to program it to record at a
specific time (see Figure 1). It can also split the songs
broadcasted into different files (if the radio stations send
titles of the songs they play).

Best of all, the RadioRecorder automatically links with iTunes
so that the radio recordings can be copied to your iPod the next
time you connect your iPod to your Mac (see Figure 2).

Podcasting is a new term associated with weblogs. Increasingly,
media files are found in weblogs, besides the usual text and
graphics. RSS 2.0 supports a new feature known as enclosure ,
and it contains a URL pointing to media files in an RSS feed.

Podcasting is the aggregation of discrete, downloadable media
files. While the term "podcasting" suggests an association
with Apple's iPod, it is important to point out that podcasting
is not limited to using Apple's iPod (for example, you can use
Windows Media to listen to a podcast).

iPodder is a small application that runs on your Mac. It
downloads audio files periodically from the Internet and
copies them to iTunes so that they can be copied to your iPod.

Using iPodder, you can subscribe to several news feeds
containing media files (see Figure 3).

You can also configure iPodder to check for new podcasts at
regular intervals (see Figure 4).

Once the podcasts are downloaded, you can find them in
iTunes . And the next time you connect your
iPod to your Mac, these podcasts would be copied onto
your iPod.

entering into the contracts referred to in above and the delivery
to FOA (Formula One Administration) of a suitable standby letter
of credit are to be concluded no later than Sept. 20, 2007," it said.

Kalmadi was confident the IOA would meet all requirements although
it is already running behind schedule with work related to
staging the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

"This letter is like an MOU," he said. "I can't say it is fully
really going to happen before we sign the contract. (But) we're
going to try.

"Basically we are going ahead with this to earn revenue for
Olympic sports," he said. "We are a large team and we will
have a lot of professionals as well."

India has been in the frame for a race as Formula One bosses
look to tap into its booming economy with Delhi and the southern
Hyderabad city mentioned as possible venues in the past.

Plans to hold a race in Hyderabad fizzled out after the
local government that backed the move was voted out of power.

Narain Karthikeyan became India's first Formula One driver
when he was signed up for the former Jordan team in 2005.
He is currently a tester with Williams.

Happy Diwali to evryone.
i hv just(3 days bk) finished with my vivas n i finally i hv got
time to blog.when our vivas wr going on some of us decided to met
up at sandy's house to study DSP as there was 4 days gap.we all
raeched sandy house at 11:30 am n after some chit chat got to
serious business ie DSP which i hv not studied during the entire sem.
After three hours of hectic study which also had some gurri jokes we
decided to call it a day n freshn our selves by watching some movie.
Sandy had DIL DOSTI ETC in his machine n we all were in.
The starting scene of the movie itself says that this movie is
for sum hedonist college guysl ike us who r always ready to pull
each others taang(leg).as the movie proceeded sum serious
comparisions wr drawn between the lead character APURV n me.the
base for the comparisions is as follows:
1. the plot has been set up in delhi n i m an ex-delhite.
2. Apurv is staying in the hostel n m also staying in the hostel.
3. sometimes i also keep on flirting with the girls like him.

these reasons gave those demons sitting nxt to me in sandy's house
enough oil n masala to fry me in the pan.then onwards every dialouge
that APurv uttered was remoulded to suit me n all of laughed our hearts
out. we could nt complete the movie that day because of time
constraints.(actually we had to study. HASSO MAT M SERIOUS). i wnt back
to hostel n the very first thing that i did was swith on my mean machine
to complete what we started as a group.the movie's a nice watch as it
tries to show what is going on intodays society.
Though some of my friends from the fairer sex who watched the movie
later did not like it because of all that stuff( u knw yaar. i don't
need to describe it now).

the movie was over but i hv been made APURV's namesake in my friend circle.
Some ppl say i might be doing the same stuff in the hostel as Apurv.
though idon't need to clarifybut apart from above mentioned things there
is nothing similar in the two characters.
LOVE for me is not just a four letter word it means more than that which
is unlike APURV.

sitting in my hostel room in front of my PC doing some stupid stuff.
( ganda mat socho )inians every where wait eagerly for this
day so that they can burn their hard earned money in the form of crackers
jst to hear few loud sounds n some eye blinding light.
U ppl must hav enjoyed some gr8 sounds n lights.

Diwali the festival of lights n happiness has been misinterpreted the
wrong way.where is it mentioned that we should light up a whole lot of
crackers jst to see a smoke covered sky the next morning. Jst wait for
a day or two after diwali n we will hav the environmentlist reports on
pollution levels who shoot up like the rockets on the diwali night.

It is up to us the younger generation GENX to save our
mother EARTH so that we can gift something clean to the
coming generations.
I knw many of u would think wat am i sounding tyalking about environment

6. Avoid slow-burning, smoldering fires.They produce the largest amount

7. Burn seasoned wood - it burns cleaner than green wood.
8. Use solar power for home and water heating.
9. Use low-VOC or water-based paints,stains, finishes and paint strippers.
10.Purchase radial tires and keep them properly inflated for your vehicle.
11.Paint with brushes or rollers instead of using spray paints to minimize
harmful emissions.
12.Ignite charcoal barbecues with an electric probe or other alternative
to lighter fluid.
13.If you use a wood stove, use one sold after 1990. They are required
to meet federal emissio standards and are more efficient and cleaner
burning.
14.Walk or ride your bike instead of driving, whenever possible.
15.Join a carpool or vanpool to get to work.

How can I verify my computer is infected?

UCSD's Network Security team compiles and monitors a list of IP addresses of computers on the Internet known to be infected with Storm Worm. This list is being compared with the logs of computers that have been visiting one of several UCSD sites, such as Tritonlink. If you get redirected to a "Storm Worm Alert" page when you try to visit Tritonlink (or any other UCSD sites using Single Sign On authentication), the IP that your computer is associated with is on our list of Storm Worm infected machines.

However, if you get redirected to a "Storm Worm Alert" page and you are at home with multiple computers connected oline, the computer you use may not actually be infected. Home computers are typically behind a router. When you connect from a shared network connection such as this, all computers behind the router will appear to have the same public IP address. If you have been redirected here when you try to access Tritonlink, there is at least one infected computer on your shared network. The only way to find out which computers are infected is to run an antivirus program on all of your home computers.

Antivirus programs are currently unable to completely identify the Storm Worm virus/bot, but will identify parts of it. If your antivirus program finds anything from this following list on your computer, you have been infected by Storm Worm and you must address the problem immediately:

What do I do if my computer has Storm Worm?

There are two options for securing your computer if it is infected with Storm Worm:

-Remove the virus. There are three ways to do this:

1.Some variations will be detected and removed by the latest Microsoft
Windows Update. Run Windows Update and install the latest patches, or
specifically, download and install the September Microsoft Windows Software
Removal Tool at the
Microsoft
Download Center.More information can be found on Microsoft's Knowledgebase Article 890830.

2. Some antivirus software with updated virus definition files may be able to
detect and remove parts of the Storm Worm viruses.

3. If the first two methods fail to remove the virus, you can contact ResNet
to have a technician help you remove it. Whether you bring in your machine
to our Helpdesk or you schedule an appointment to have a technician come to
your location, Storm Worm removal typically takes up to 30 minutes. Newer
variations will require someone trained in removing the Storm Worm virus.

-Reformat your computer. This involves wiping all your data off of the hard
drive and reinstalling your operating system. We strongly recommended you
enlist the help of a computer specialist if you feel you will not be
comfortable following step-by-step instructions. Some large computer chain
stores provide this kind of service (CompUSA's "Techknowledgists" and Best
Buy's "Geek Squad").

STORM : THE SUPER VIRUS- The story of a virus

October 24, 2007: The most powerful Internet weapon on the planet is apparently dying the death of a thousand cuts. The weapon in question is the Storm botnet. This was the largest botnet ever seen, and it appeared to be acting like something out of a science fiction story. Last Summer, the Storm network was believed capable to shutting down any military or commercial site on the planet. Or, Storm could cripple hundreds of related sites temporarily. Worse, Storm could have done some major damage in ways that have not yet been experienced.

There's never been anything quite like Storm, but the counterattacks against the network proved to be very effective. The Storm Network is now believed to contain a few hundred thousand PCs at most, and is shrinking daily because of security software being updated to do just that.

The Storm computer virus had been spreading since early in the year, grabbing control of PCs around the world. In that time Storm apparently infected over ten million computers with a secret program that turned those PCs into unwilling slaves (or "zombies") of those controlling this network (or botnet) of computers. Many of you may have noticed a lot of spam this year directing you to look at an online greeting card, or accompanied by pdf or image files. That was Storm, the largest single spam campaign ever. When you try to look at the file, Storm secretly takes over your computer. But Storm tries very hard to hide itself. All it wants to do is use your Internet connection to send spam, or other types of malicious data.

What makes Storm the perfect Internet weapon is how it has been designed to survive. The Storm zombie does no damage to the PCs it infects, and simply sits there, waiting for an order. Those orders come via a peer-to-peer system (similar to things like Kazaa or Bittorrent). A small percent age of the zombies spend short periods of time trying to spread themselves, then turn off. This makes it more difficult to locate infected PCs. Commands from the Storm operators are sent through several layers of zombie PCs, again making it very difficult to identify where those commands come from. Moreover, Storm operates as a horde of clusters, each of two or three dozen zombie PCs. It was believed that Storm would be very resistant to being shut down. Some police agencies have concentrated on finding the people running it, arresting them, and seizing their access data. The programmers who put Storm together know their stuff, and police in dozens of country would like to get their hands on them.

To avoid the police (especially the U.S. FBI), many botherders (those who operate botnets) are usually in countries without an extradition treaty with the United States (where nearly half the zombie PCs are). Criminal gangs are increasingly active in producing things like Storm, and, in the case of China, so are government Cyber War operations. It's unclear who is controlling the Storm botnet, but it's becoming clear what Storm is up to. It has been launching attacks at web sites involved in stopping or investigating Storm. This involves transmitting huge quantities of bogus messages ,that shut down targeted web sites (this is a DDOS, or distributed denial or service attack). The Storm botherders are also advertising their botnet as available for the usual illegal activities (various types of spam). It's believed that Storm is owned by a Russian criminal syndicate, but that's only a guess based on what is known about Storm so far.

What brought down Storm were antivirus software publishers, who updated their software to detect and remove the Storm software that secretly turned a PC into a zombie. Even though the Storm creators made their zombie software hard to detect, it was not impossible to detect. The final blow in this campaign came in September, when Microsoft updated its "Malicious Software Removal tool" (which is a component of the Windows operating system) to detect and remove Storm. As Storm has been modified to avoid removal, Microsoft and other security software manufacturers have been adjusting their software. It's a race that Storm has apparently been losing.

What Storm demonstrated, however, was how a Cyber War operation could quickly build a large botnet. Such a network could be used as a military weapon, for at least a few weeks, until security software removed most of the zombie software. Storm, however, was used mainly for the usual Internet criminal scams. But it could have been used as a weapon, and future networks like Storm might be put to more sinister uses.

THE ANCIENT LADIES OF BHENSWARA

The forts and palaces of Rajasthan are eternally appealing, conjuring scenes of battles, well-trod caravan routes, and epic dynasties. But for many of us, travel is all about the people we meet. India has no shortage of characters: eager kids, flamboyant bus drivers, crotchety old men. Great personalities abound in Bhenswara, a lovely untouristed small town, where it is often said 'the real India' lives. Wandering the humble lanes, don't be surprised at the number of fans who will come out to welcome you. Near a shoemaker's house, you might find two old ladies with weather-beaten skin, thick specs and well-worn saris adorning their tiny frames. The first time I saw them, they stepped out to grasp my hands, share belly laughs, and admire my hair. Even without a common language, these charmers brought to life that saying heard all over India: 'Atithi Devo Bhava' or 'Guest is God'. I was awed by their simple humanity and the connection across time, distance and culture. And that's what I had really come for.

ROADSIDE RELIGION

In the medieval hamlet of Orchha there is a 'temple' that for me signifies religious devotion at its purest, most sincere form. While the eye-popping ornateness of the temples at Kujuraho, or the ancient Shiva temples of Varanasi are impressive, I find the devoutness of Hindu India most present in the more subtle small family shrines. There, just next to the lane heading into town from the train station, is a perfect - albeit humble - Shiva 'temple'. On the ground next to a creaky old tree, a black onyx Shiva lingam is lovingly worshipped by its caretakers. Each morning for 'puja', fresh marigolds, cow's milk, a lamp of fire, and burning incense appear. There is no pomp, no affectation, and the whole set-up covers less than a square metre. It is just an everyday family living their religion, in small town India. If you can find this kind of small moment, in a place like Orchha, you have found the heart of India.

THE BEST MANGO PICKLE

The Shekhawati region of Rajasthan is known as an open-air art gallery for its painted havelis, elegant homes of the wealthy merchant classes of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Mural scenes tell stories of maharaja opulence, British residents and news of the day - like the arrival of passenger trains. You wouldn't necessarily think to come to Nawalgarh for the food (though it is one of the most decorous tiny towns), but all the gazing makes you hungry. An unexpected highlight is coming upon Kalpana Singh and her amazing homemade pickles at her restaurant near the palace. Indian pickles are salty, briny, spicy preserves of lime, mango and other treats. Even if you are a pickle skeptic, try dipping into the bright saucy delicacies with a fried parantha. The condiment soon becomes the main event - many have dreamed about bottling and exporting the stuff, it is that good! You can try your luck wresting the recipe from the lady of the house, once you find her in Nawalgarh.

A FOODIE TREASURE HUNT IN OLD DELHI

Most people glimpse Old Delhi from the famous Red Fort at the foot of its main road, Chandni Chowk, or from the minaret at India's largest mosque, the Jama Masjid. But Old Delhi at street level is an experience. The atmospheric lanes are full of famous street food and fine restaurants alike. There are whole alleys known as galis, devoted to specialties: gali kebab, south of the mosque, includes a restaurant whose owners descend from the chefs to the Moghul emperors as far back as Babur. Nearby in the spice bazaar (an adventure in itself!) there are galis for pickles, chutneys, and sugar. The latter, gali batasha, sells sugar in every shape from powder to rock icicle. Many travellers taste their first sizzling parantha (stuffed fried flatbread) in - you guessed it - gali paranthawala. Back on Chandni Chowk, a sweet shop voted the city's best was named for its most famous habitual customer, an elephant housed at the Red Fort stables in the 1790s. Old Delhi is said to be where some of India's most famous foods - tandoori, kebabs, kulfi - were invented. Finding the source is an adventure, a history lesson and pure gastronomic pleasure.

MAKING THE SILK OF EMPERORS

In the eastern part of the city, near a cinema, 15 minutes by auto-rickshaw from the old city, there is a Muslim enclave of weavers spinning the expensive brocade silk saris that the city is famous for. Wandering the narrow lanes, peering past weathered wooden doorways, you can see men seated at huge handlooms in every corner. The looms' clack-clack has echoed here for generations. In fact, these weavers are said to be descendants of the weavers to the likes of Akbar the Great, who required the finest, most elegant silk for court and palace. Inside a spare lantern-lit stone room, you may even be invited to try spinning with one of these master craftsmen.

These days my friends hav found a very noble way of entertainment in the college.
From the time we enter the college to the moment we say good bye at the station( sometimes even after that, read on u'll come to know)this new form of so-called entertainment continues.
This noble form is PULLING OTHER PPLs LEGS(taang kheechna or to be specific doston ki maarna).
from the last one week, GEEKDEEP that is me is the soft target or u could say that i m the scapegoat(bakra)who is being facing the blade everyday.Well m not alone bcoz there is one more bakri( arrey u know it yaar) who is being slaughtered.
By now u might hv guessed the reason for my being the soft target. I do not mind being scapegoat bcoz its part n parcel of the college life n considering only six months r lft before we mov into the viscious circle of life having no time for others n sometimes for our own selves.
All this was started by two great maharathis BRIN(ku) and GURRI(s) in my case.
But sometimes i also feel bad when ppl cross the limit( cmmon yaar m also human) as what hppnd yesterday:
read on:

yesterday we were sitting in the canteen chatting n having snacks on a round table(somewhat round). Brin was fiddling with my cell n Harry was sitting nxt to her.Harry had a keeda in his dimag(actually his mind is bugged) n he planned to hide my cell in POO's bag(rmembr the bakri) but it was overheard by POO so my cell survived that moment. But sitting nxt to harry,was sandy(earlier he used to be the bakra)n the keeda infected his brain. So sandy with one of his accomplises Harshu executed the plan n my mobile was out-of-sight(in POO's bag bt she also did nt know).
I enquired harry abt the cell n he laughed so i thought that he was playing a prank n the cell was with him. So we all bid adieu n left the college. On reaching the station i again asked harry n this time he seriously said(he can nvr be serious at least in my case )he did not possess my cell.
i felt like kicking his ass bt we were standing at a public place so he got away.
the nxt step was to call all the ppl who were there in the canteen.To add to my tension no one answered the call. Gurri n Sree(nee) n Harry were with me n they all were giggling like demons.
I called on my cell(shot coin bax se yaar) again no answer.
Finally a call to sandy informed me that my cell was in foreign network with a foreign agent( kal Mobile Communication ka test tha effect to hoga na ) .
I and harry had to travel back a kilometr from the station to collect my cell n harshu n poo were standing n smiling for this great prank played on the prankmaster GEEKDEEP.
Don't worry ppl i will be back soon. BEWARE!!!!

don’t worry.

Here is the solution:

1.open task manager by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL or ctrl+shift+esc and go to the processes
tab.
2.search the svchost.exe under the image name. There will be many but look for the ones which
have your username under the username .
3.Press DEL to kill these files. It will give you a warning, Press Yes
4.Repeat for more svchost.exe files with your username and repeat. Do not kill svchost.exe with
system, local service or network service!
5.Now go to start n then run or my computer .
6.In the address bar, type C:\heap41a and press enter. It is a hidden folder, and is not visible by
default.
7.Delete all the files here
8.Now go to Start --> Run and type Regedit
9.Go to the menu Edit --> Find or press F3.
10.Type "heap41a" here and press enter. You will get something like this "[winlogon]
c:\heap41a\svchost.exe C:\heap(some number)\std.txt"
11.Select that and Press DEL. It will ask "Are you sure you want to delete this value?", click Yes
12.Now close the registry editor.
13.Now the virus is gone। But be sure to delete the autorun।inf file and any folder whose name
ends with .exe in the pen drive next time u use it with ur PC.

NOTE:This malware is named as w32.USBWorm and Avast 4.6 detects n removes this
malware.

hi friends!
today i m describing few of my friends n an incident that happened today. so read on...

This is the story of four friends (actually five friends- 4 girls n the fifth friend is
their inseparable college ICARD which keeps hanging in their neck all the time they r in the college( sometimes when they get ready for college they put on their icards also n it keeps dangling in their neck's till they reach back home.)
The awesome four r the teacher’s most loyal student this is clear from the fact that even
after scoring 75% to 90% in their first SOFTWARE ENGINEERING unit test they r appearing for the retest on the coming 18th oct. Their funda in life is our teacher’s hard work should not go in vain.
U all must be wondering who the famous five are? So here they are-
Starting with Ramya-read Miss Infy (placed in infosys) or ramy.
Then comes Asha and Shreya-there ppl do not chit chat a lot but when they speak just watch them out.
No.4 is taken by Riya- the only person in the world with a pen drive whose head is tilted by 45 degrees (don't know where she got it from).I bet it u won’t find another one.
And last but not the least is the bechara icard who has to go everywhere they go in spite of not willing to.

These mahan hastis were to give their final year project presentation today. Me n my group having given it yesterday were a bit experienced n went to college just to support them n all other batches also (actually we r a helpful lot).when i reached college all of them had already arrived n were standing outside the computer lab, their eyes digging into the preparation notes n their lips moving as if they were shivering in the cold winds of the SIACHEN (world’s highest battle field- J&K). All of then had their heart in their mouth but the interesting thing was that they were telling all others to stay calm for the presentation.
I went in there just to increase their tension with my so-called logical questions.
They were prepared for all sorts of questions by our group. With confidence n tension (sounds unusual- remember they r girls. anything possible) looming on their faces the famous five (remember icard still hanging) went into present their project; ready to smash out anything thrown at them (i mean the questions).

They came out happily sporting a smile as their presentation went smooth n guess what, they had been asked the same questions as we had asked them so everything went in fine.
Then we all had our lunch and proceeded to our abodes to meet again on Saturday for the advanced microprocessor test.

This was just one of the many chapters of our famous five's college life. Keep reading to here more about them.

Hi friends

Yesterday one of my friends got a call from a company for a job.

He was very happy to get a call considering the time we r going through.

He checked the offer letter n the company profile on the net n the company profile was like

THIS COMPANY WANTS FRESH COMPUTER ENGINEERS.

The comapny manages the networks n towers of almost all telecom compananies.

After going through the mail he was exited to attend the interview scheduled fo r 3 p.m later in the day.

he was concerned a bit regarding what r those ppl gonna ask him in the TECHNICAL INTERVIEW as he was not prepared for the technical interview that to on networks that we had studied in the 5th sem 365 days ago, i mean 1 year.

At 2 'o clock he was dressed in formals, ready to go for his first so called technical interview.

i was at his place at that time n we both left together, i was going back to my hostel n he was going to the company.I wished him BEST OF LUCK n we both departed.

At 3.30 p.m i got a call from him.I answered his call with a smile hoping to hear some good news but, his tone was a bit different.He was laughing on the stupidity of the company he had been called for the interview. He was saying he is overqualified for the job. i enquired about the job profile n hearing his answer i kept laughing for 2 minutes.

The company wanted a LINEMAN sort of a person who could go to ppls houses n configure their IPs (INTERNET PROTOCOLS all those using the net should know.).

The inetrviewer said usually she gives 3 Grands for such a job but after considering him she will give 4 Grands.

He left the place that moment itself.

I was surprised to know what ppl think about us computer engineers. we study night n day(actually only at night coz we hav others sort of work during day time like writing this blog from my college net) so that we get a decent job after we pass out but after hearing this offer i m not able to control my laughter at the views of the ppl about us .
We r not mere coders .We r programmers n PPL from our fraternity r running this world i maen this innernet/internet. We need a decent deal for the time we spend studying all the programming languages n all the networks n GOD knows what all crap(i myself don't remember).

I request ALL THE IT COMPANIES TO COME FORWARD N RECRUIT US PROGRAMMERS so that such stupid firms do not lower the DIGNITY n RESPECT associated with such a professional degree.

CALLING ALL ENGINEERS TO SUPPORT THIS CAUSE.

Lt. Saurabh Kalia of 4 JAT Regiment of the Indian Army laid down his life at the young age of 22 for the nation while guarding the frontiers at Kargil. His parents, indeed the Indian Army and nation itself, lost a dedicated, honest and brave son.He was the first officer to detect and inform about Pakistani intrusion. Pakistan captured him and his patrol party of 5 brave men alive on May 15, 1999 from the Indian side of LOC. They were kept in captivity for three weeks and subjected to unprecedented brutal torture, evident from their bodies handed over by
the Pakistanis indulged in dastardly acts of inflicting burns on these Indian\nofficers with cigarettes, piercing their ears with hot rods, removing their\neyes before puncturing them and breaking most of the bones and teeth. They even chopped off various limbs and private organs of the Indian soldiers besides inflicting unimaginable physical and mental torture. After 22 days of torture, the brave soldiers were ultimately shot dead. A detailed post-mortem report is with the Indian Army. Pakistan dared to humiliate India this way flouting all international norms. They proved the extent to which they can degrade humanity. However, the Indian soldiers did not break while undergoing all this unimaginable barbarism, which speaks volumes of their patriotism, grit, determination, tenacity and valour something all of India should be proud of. Sacrificing oneself for the nation is an honour every soldier would be proud of, but no parent, army or nation can accept what happened to these brave sons of India.I am afraid every parent may think twice to send their child in the armed forces if we all fall short of our duty in safeguarding the PRISONERS OF WAR AND LET THEM MEET THE FATE OF LT.SAURABH KALIA.It may also send a demoralising signal to the army personnel fighting for the Nation that our POWs in Pak cannot be taken care of. It is a matter of shame and disgust that most of Indian Human Rights Organisations by and large, showed apathy in this matter. Through this humble submission, may I appeal to all to all the civilized people irrespective of colour, caste, region, religion and political lineage to stir their conscience and rise to take this as a NATIONAL ISSUE !!! International Human Rights Organizations must be approached to expose and pressure Pakistan to identify, book and punish all those who perpetrated this heinous crime to our men in uniform. If Pakistan is allowed to go unpunished in this case, we can only imagine the consequences. Below is the list of 5 other soldiers who preferred to die for the country rather than open their mouths in front of enemy -
